Coming up with the right female dog names is not always an easy task.

There are many reasons why choosing female dog names is so difficult; in fact, some people find they have more trouble naming their female dog than they do naming their children :-)

So, why is choosing a Female dos names so difficult?

  • You want to identify your dog as the lady she is, but looking for something a little different than the regular names all other female dogs are wearing

  • Make a list of your favorite dog names
    Consult with your kids, family and friends and try to come up with a relatively short list
  • Have your female dog in front of you when looking for a name
    Choose a name that fits with your dog’s appearance and personality
  • Check how your dog reacts to suggested names
    Try the names you like on your dog, see if there are names she reacts to better than others
  • A couple of syllable names are best
    This avoids confusion with commands, which are mostly one syllable words.
    Don’t choose a name that sounds like a command
  • The female dog names should be simple
    The name should be easily recognized and should be easy to call out
  • Make sure that the name can grow with your dog
    Ensure that the female dog name you choose for your cute little puppy will continue to suit your dog as she grows into a big strong adult
  • Remember you will be using your dog’s name in public
    Make sure you come up with a name you’re not embarrassed to shout in public
  • Do not select a name that is similar to a family member’s or friend’s name
    It confuses the dog and in the long run she might stop responding to it
  • Once you’ve decided on your perfect name, stick with it
    Try not to confuse your female dog by using different nicknames.
    It is best to stick with one name so there’s no doubt in your dog’s mind whether you’re calling her or not
